Is Building a Digital Income Supposed to Feel This Hard?

Is Building a Digital Income Supposed to Feel This Hard?

If you’ve been posting for months, buying courses, trying every new strategy you come across, and still haven’t earned your first commission… you’re probably asking yourself one painful question:

“Is building a digital income supposed to feel this hard?”

Maybe you’ve been here before.

Maybe it was Scentsy. Mary Kay. Another side hustle that promised flexibility and freedom but never actually fulfilled that promise.

Now you’re trying digital marketing because you desperately want something different.

For me, I was on maternity leave with my second baby, and every day brought me one step closer to going back to a job I didn’t want to return to. My family depended on my income, but my heart wanted to be home with my kids.

Late-night nursing sessions turned into doom-scrolling sessions. Every time I opened Instagram or Facebook, someone else was celebrating another commission, another milestone, another “I made this while I slept!” post.

Meanwhile, my Stan Store still showed zero visitors.

My spouse was starting to think this whole thing was a waste of time. And part of me was starting to believe it too.

Then another creator recommended another course. Another tool. Another subscription I “need” before I’d finally start making money.

The costs kept adding up.

The commissions didn’t.

That was my story. Maybe it’s your story too. If so, I get it.

It’s frustrating. It’s embarrassing. It’s exhausting. And it makes you wonder if you’ve fallen for another dream that was never meant to work.

Here’s what I wish someone had told me when I first started out:

It isn’t just you.

Social media gives us a completely distorted picture of what building a digital income actually looks like. We mostly see the people who hit their first commission quickly because those are the stories that get shared.

What we don’t see are the months—or sometimes years—of showing up before momentum finally starts building.

Or the people who didn’t find success until their third or fourth attempt.

Or the creators who almost quit right before everything started clicking.

Building digital income is rarely glamorous in the beginning.

But if you understand what’s really happening during those early months, you’ll stop judging yourself by the wrong standards and start making decisions that actually move you forward.

Here’s what I want you to hold onto while we get into this:

That first sale, however small, is proof that the hours you put in and all the late nights weren’t wasted. You weren’t wrong to believe this could work. The life you want is actually buildable.

That moment is closer than you think.

Let’s walk through three strategies that can help you understand where you are in the process.

Specifically: how to measure the right things so you stop judging yourself by the wrong standards, why committing to one strategy for 90 days is the only way to get real data, and why going it alone is almost always more expensive than it looks.

Strategy 1: Measure What Matters.

One of the hardest parts of building a digital income is that your effort and your results almost never show up at the same time.

Think about pushing a giant flywheel.

At first, it barely moves.

You push.

Nothing.

You push again.

Still almost nothing.

From the outside, it looks like all that work isn’t accomplishing anything.

But every push matters.

Eventually, the wheel gains enough momentum that it begins moving faster with less effort.

Building digital income works the same way.

In the beginning, “working” doesn’t mean earning.

It means showing up consistently.

Learning how to create better content.

Getting comfortable with actually posting that content.

Building habits you’ll rely on later.

As time goes on, success starts looking different.

Instead of asking, “Did I make money today?” ask questions like:

  • 📌 Are more people saving my posts?
  • 📧 Are my email subscribers growing?
  • 🔗 Are people clicking my links?
  • 🗨️ Am I getting more DMs and conversations?

Those are the leading indicators you want to look for.

Your earnings are a lagging indicator.

They often come after trust has already been built.

The biggest difference between people who eventually succeed and those who quit isn’t usually talent.

It’s mindset.

The people who keep pushing the flywheel, even when it doesn’t seem to be moving, are the ones who eventually experience momentum.

One thing I’ve come to appreciate about the system I eventually chose is that they’re upfront about this from day one. They don’t promise overnight success. That honesty matters more than you’d think when you’re tempted to quit. I’ll come back to that.

Strategy 2: Stick With It For At Least 90 Days.

Here’s something almost every beginner does.

You watch one person’s training.

Completely change your content.

Watch another creator later on that gives you different advice or says something like “Instagram is dead.”

You decide to switch to a totally different platform because again you just want to start earning already.

You end up redesigning your funnel, buying another course, and start trying to build an audience from scratch all over again on this new platform.

You’ve started over again. And you’ve lost any momentum that you might have gained with your original strategy.

The problem might not be the strategy itself.

It’s that you’re never giving one strategy enough time to produce meaningful data.

Consistency is what creates clarity.

Instead of constantly chasing the newest advice, commit to:

  • One platform. ✅
  • One offer. ✅
  • One messaging strategy. ✅

And stick with it for at least 90 days before deciding whether it’s working.

That’s long enough to identify patterns, improve your skills, and make informed adjustments instead of emotional ones.

This is one reason I like done-for-you content ideas that give you a clear calendar of what to post over the first 90 days.

Your energy stays where it matters most:

Showing up.

Creating content.

Building relationships.

Instead of constantly rebuilding the foundation.

Strategy 3: You Don’t Have to Figure This Out Alone.

Trying to build a business by yourself sounds cheaper.

Often, it’s much more expensive.

Without feedback, every mistake costs time.

Every unanswered question sends you searching for another YouTube video.

Another coach.

Another course.

Another subscription.

Not because you don’t work hard, but because you don’t know what actually needs fixing.

Every setback chips away at your confidence.

Momentum slows.

And once momentum disappears, it’s incredibly difficult to rebuild.

That’s why community matters so much.

When you’re a member of a community, you don’t have to guess.

You can ask questions.

You can learn from members who are a few steps ahead and learn from mistakes someone else has already made.

And get direct feedback instead of wondering whether your content is working.

Find a place where you can get mentorship calls, account audits, and an active community where people are a few steps ahead and willing to share what they’ve learned.

For someone who’s already spent time and money on things that didn’t work, or who’s terrified this might be another dead end, that kind of support is the difference between quitting right before the flywheel starts turning, and actually getting there.

Why I Finally Stopped Trying to Piece It Together Myself

If you’re anything like I was, you’re probably thinking:

“Okay… I get all of this. But what does actually staying consistent look like? And how do I know what system to commit to?”

That’s the exact question I wrestled with.

I spent way too much time believing I could figure everything out on my own and with free resources.

I’d watch another YouTube video, buy another mini course, or follow another creator who swore their strategy was the one.

Every time I hit a wall, I assumed I just needed more information.

What I actually needed was one system and people who would help me stick with it long enough to see whether it worked.

That’s ultimately why I chose to invest in a done-for-you service called The Wealth Creator (TWC).

Not because someone promised I’d get rich overnight.

Actually… it was the opposite.

One of the first things that stood out to me was their honesty.

From day one, they were upfront that building a digital income takes time. They didn’t pretend everyone makes their first sale in 30 days. They talked about consistency, patience, and treating this like a real business instead of chasing quick wins.

But there were practical reasons too.

I didn’t want to spend weeks figuring out websites, funnels, email automations, checkout pages, and all the backend tech before I could even start creating content.

TWC built all of that for me.

Instead of worrying about infrastructure, I could focus on learning one skill:

Showing up consistently online.

They also didn’t just hand me information and disappear.

Every week there are mentorship calls where you can ask questions.

They review social media accounts and point out exactly what to improve.

There’s a community full of people who are a few steps ahead, and people just getting started, so you’re never trying to solve every problem by yourself.

You also get:

  • Done-for-you content ideas that help eliminate the “What do I post today?” panic.
  • Content calendars that make consistency much easier.
  • Done-for-you digital products you can customize and resell if you don’t have your own products yet.
  • Access to TWC’s private marketplace if you do have your own products.
  • Lifetime access, so there’s no pressure to master everything immediately.

Looking back, I realized I wasn’t paying for another course. I was paying for support and to stop starting over.

That ended up being one of the best decisions I could have made.

“But How Do I Know This Isn’t Just Another Waste of My Time and Money?”

That’s a fair question. And one of the biggest limiting factors for most people who are getting started with digital marketing.

It is hard to spend more money on yet another thing, especially if you’ve been burned before.

And TWC is no small investment at over $2247.

But consider this:

Many people spend $30,000+ earning degrees because society tells us that’s a good investment.

For many women, those degrees still don’t create the flexibility they want.

They don’t make it easier to stay home with their kids.

They don’t create passive income.

They don’t give them more control over their schedule.

They might not even use their degree.

Those investments carry risk too.

This is simply a different kind of investment in yourself at less than 10% of the cost.

The question I eventually asked wasn’t, “Could this fail?”

It was, “If I never seriously learn these skills, what will the next five years of my life look like?”

Plus, you’re not just paying for information.

You’re getting lifetime access to mentorship calls, done-for-you content ideas, customizable digital products, social media audits, access to their private marketplace, and a built-for-you backend system that removes much of the technical setup.

But I want to emphasize that this isn’t a magic button. It didn’t work because I signed up. It worked because I showed up.

Your results will depend on whether you do the same. But having the support, the system, and the community made showing up a lot easier than doing it alone ever was.

Look, if a $1000+ start up cost would break you financially, then the convenience of a DFY service probably isn’t right for you, and that’s okay.

But if your goal is building a digital income with guidance instead of trying to piece everything together on your own, having ongoing support and a clear system can help you avoid many of the common mistakes that cause people to quit early and lose money.

Here’s a testimonial from inside the community. I’ve removed her name for privacy.

Results testimonial — building digital income with The Wealth Creator digital marketing program

She started with no audience and no clear understanding of how to market herself online. Through TWC, she learned how to grow her Instagram intentionally, create content that connected with the right audience, use calls-to-action effectively, and build an online business around attraction marketing. Over time, she grew her business to the point where she has earned thousands in passive income, including waking up to four-figure commission notifications. Her experience is one example of what’s possible, though every person’s results will be different.

Keep Pushing the Flywheel 🔁

The beginning is almost never the exciting part.

It’s repetitive.

It’s uncertain.

Sometimes it’s lonely.

And yes, sometimes it feels expensive before it feels rewarding.

But that doesn’t automatically mean you’re failing.

It may simply mean you’re still in the stage where momentum hasn’t caught up with your effort yet.

Remember:

The leading indicators matter more than the dollar count right now. Committing to one strategy long enough to get real data is what separates the people who quit from the people who figure it out.

And doing this with people who can tell you what to fix instead of leaving you to guess is almost always faster and cheaper than going it alone.

Those three shifts won’t make success happen overnight.

But they can help you stay in the game long enough to give yourself a real chance.

Because that first $1 earned isn’t just about the money.

It’s proof.

💡Proof that the life you’ve been working toward might actually be possible.

💡Proof that your effort wasn’t wasted.

💡Proof that you can build something outside your 9-to-5.

And sometimes that’s exactly the evidence you need to keep going.

Before You Give Up…

Can I ask you one more question?

What if nothing is actually wrong with you?

What if you’re simply trying to build something incredibly difficult without the right support system?

You don’t have to answer that today.

But before you decide your next step, I’d encourage you to spend an hour learning from people who’ve helped thousands of others build online businesses.

TWC has a free live masterclass on digital marketing, and it walks through exactly how their system works, what you receive, and whether it’s something that fits your goals.

If you’re curious, you can register 👉 here. Again, it’s free. Sometimes one hour of clarity is worth a lot more than another six months of guessing.

If you do decide to take the first step toward building a digital income with guidance, community, and a proven framework, let me know!
